“Johnathan, you’re so tall for a 7-year-old boy! Jonathan, you’re so strong for your age! Johnathan, the color of your eyes is so peculiar! It changes depending on the weather!”.

Maybe I was peculiar, but the place where I grew up was very peculiar as well. Nothing bad had ever happened there, no theft, no murders, even no fights. Now when I am much older, I find this behavior very bizarre. It’s like people had never experienced negative emotions there. Are they still human then? Who knows...

When I was 12, I found out the price the whole village was paying for their prosperity and serenity. The vanishings were happening once every few years. The previous disappearances occurred when I was still a little boy. I didn’t understand much, one of the teachers came to our classroom and stated a few names. He said they were not a part of the class anymore. I’ve never seen any one of them ever again.

The second time, however, stuck to my memory very distinctively. I fell asleep in a house full of family members. When I woke up, I was completely alone. The elders of the village told me nothing like this had ever happened before. The disappearances always occurred in different families as if the kidnappers felt some sort of perverted compassion, so they never took more than one person from one house.

I, however, was the exception. I’ve always been special, remember?

“Johnathan, you’ve been chosen! You’ve survived by a miracle! You’re a special, special child!”

I hated them for it. I’ve left the village as soon I had an opportunity. I was only one of the few that have ever left. Why? Why stay at this damned place of crime, why play roulette? I left, but I swore to myself that I would come back when I’m ready. Ready to break the circle.

And now I am. I will hunt the beasts that took my family away from me. I will find and kill every one of them. And if it’s not enough, I will come for the villagers as well...
